Weather diary of George W. Pettit [manuscript], 1853-1854.

Ledger of George W. Pettit records the weather and daily temperatures from January 1853-October 1864. The volume also contains scattered very brief remarks on events in his personal life including planting of crops, purchase of slaves, travels, formation of an artillery company in 1861, the enlistment of [sons?] Henry J. and Samuel R. Pettit in the Fluvanna Artillery (known as the Sons of Fluvanna), slave hiring and corn sales to the Confederacy, Federal raid on Columbia, hunting deserters, and death of S. R. Wood in Chimborazo Hospital. Front of volume also contains a few tobacco shipping accounts, 1842-1843.
